A hot dog (also spelled hotdog [citation needed]) is a food consisting of a grilled or steamed sausage served in the slit of a partially sliced bun. It can also refer to the sausage itself. The sausage used is a wiener (Vienna sausage) or a frankfurter (Frankfurter Würstchen, also just called frank). The names of these sausages also commonly refer to their assembled dish.

Pile on the easy but irresistible fruit salsa for a burst of fresh flavor. —Carole Resnick, Cleveland, Ohio There are two types of people in the world: Those who prefer burgers and those who prefer hot dogs—and the divide becomes clear at any cookout. Personally, I'm firmly in the hot dog camp. From the satisfying snap when you bite in to the pillowy bun that lets you pile on practically any topping, I say hot dogs are the all-American summer meal. Why make the same old boring hot dogs?

Steps to make Hot Dog:
  1. The sausage packet says can be served as cold cut but I don't take chance, I boil and cook the sauce for about 10 minutes…I just prick it with a pin or needle or toothpick so that it doesn't burst open while cooking/ boiling (this is the trick my mom and granny used to do while cooking fresh sausages). Here for 6 sausage I have used 1.5 cup water (I used 4 only). After that you can either eat it boiled or grill it as I did on a grill pan by brushing with little oil for a minute or so.
  2. In the meantime, sausage gets cooked, prepare the other ingredients for topping…sprinkle salt and set it ready to be assembled.
  3. Once the sausage is boiled and pan grilled, cut the bun from the middle as shown in the pic (but not through, let one side be intact). Put the sausage and then the other prepared toppings and the mustard sauce and serve it fresh !!!

From the satisfying snap when you bite in to the pillowy bun that lets you pile on practically any topping, I say hot dogs are the all-American summer meal. Why make the same old boring hot dogs? We'll show you how with a few simple moves, you can turn hot dogs into top dogs. A good hot dog isn't too soft or mushy. A good hot dog casing bursts a little when you bite it (but it also doesn't require too much chewing, which can be off-putting).
