- Prepare 1 Char Siu, boiled chicken, ham, etc
- Make ready 1 dash Ra-yu
I KNOW, sounds disgusting and unhealthy but please believe it is the complete opposite. With their cold weather, Hokkaido's Ramen is usually rich in seafood and fat. Just when I was convinced that Ramen was my favorite, we stop by the metropolis city of Sendai on our way north to Hokkaido, where I run into Abura Soba, Japan's oil noodles. Yes, the Ramen was undoubtedly delicious, but these oil noodles were simply amazing.
Steps to make My Favorite Oil Ramen Noodles (Abura-Soba):
- Put all the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
- Make a 1 cm cut in the Yakisoba noodle pouch, and microwave for 1-2 minutes.
- Add Step 2 into Step 1, and mix.
- Add toppings of your choice, and it's done.
- Choose any toppings of your choice I used soft-boiled egg, mizuna, and boiled chicken this time.
- It's also tasty with a squirt of mayonnaise!

Yes, the Ramen was undoubtedly delicious, but these oil noodles were simply amazing. Abura soba literally means "oil noodles", which sounds weird and greasy. But it is actually delicious and healthier then normal ramen. It consists of thick noodles, toppings, and most importantly, it has "tare" (thick soy sauce) on the bottom of the bowl instead of soup.
